Dr. Leon F. Cohn specializes in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, age related retinal diseases and glaucoma as part of a practice dedicated to general Ophthalmology. Dr. Leon F. Cohn brings a unique experience to his practice, having been trained and practiced both in Internal Medicine (Diabetes and High Blood Pressure) and Ophthalmology. Dr. Leon F. Cohn is fellowship trained in Retina ophthalmology having studied under some of the original Retina pioneers of Zegarra & Gottman & Knobloch (from the original Retina department of Cleveland Clinic Ohio).
Dr. Cohn was one of the first laser Retinal specialist trained going back to 1976 when the Argon laser was FDA approved. Dr. Cohn participated in some of the original research in the use and calibration of the Argon laser in the treatment of Retinal/Vitreal diseases. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, attended and graduated with his Medical Degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine. He trained in Internal Medicine at Philadelphia General and Jefferson Medical College Hospital; served as an Internist in the US Army during the Vietnam War and then trained as an Ophthalmologist at the Albert Einstein/Bronx Lebanon Medical Center New York culminating in a full fellowship for Retinal Disease at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Leon F. Cohn established his practice in Plantation, Florida in March 1977 and has been practicing ever since. He has treated thousands of patients with all sorts of Eye Diseases:
A) Performed over 8,000 cataract surgeries
B) Performed thousands of Argon and Yag Cap laser procedures
C) Treated multiple eye related problems relating to infections, arthritis and diabetes Dr. Leon F. Cohn is an active member in good standing with the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
